It's often quite depressing to look inside a newspaper or watch the news with my dad on CNN or BBC. For the most part the news is never good. Earthquake in some place , famine in another, War in some place, diseases in another. My Dad and i often shake our heads and if I can't take the disappointment of listening to more bad news anymore, I often just take the remote and switch to the sports channel. It's comforting to know that none of this stuff happens to us, and so it's probably easier not to watch the news and read the newspaper, so we don't hear about rapes and killings, imprisonments and mass graves and other stuff like that. Accept that if we were to ignore these things, we are actually turning our back on the so many violations of human rights in many other countries. Maybe it's not our problem but I beg to differ.
Last week while walking out of class towards our cafe I saw a student. He was tall and a bit more mature than most. He had a more Caucasian look to him and he was wearing a T-shirt that said "Srebrenica July 2005: Never Forget". I didn't think much of it until I read this:
http://www.themalaysianinsider.com/world/article/serb-general-hunted-for-massacre-to-face-tribunal/
There are people who walk among us who bear the scars and the pain and sorrow that comes with the violation of human rights, many of us have never experienced these things but you must connect with them you must show solidarity because we are human just as they are.
In watching the video " the Story of Human Rights" we look at the most precious thing we all have. It's the right not to be treated like an animal, the right to be treated fairly and the right to be all the things you want to be and dream of being because you are an individual with a heart, soul and mind.
I'd like to hear from you and ask you what you think about the video on human right you watched last week. I'd like you to tell me what you think and what you feel about this video or how it makes you feel inside. I'd like you to be honest too and tell me why you feel the way you feel.

ReplyDeleteThe story of human rights showed me how human rights were created and how it progressed over the years. I feel that all humans are born equal and we should be treated equally no matter what the circumstances are. There are a lot of human rights listed in The Universal Declaration of Human Rights such as the rights to religion, the rights to live, the rights to have education and many more. However, the question still remained unanswered, what are human rights? We could ask a thousand people and we will get a thousand different opinions about this question.
ReplyDeleteI feel pity and sad for those who suffered, have not enough food and shelter, people who are placed behind bars after viocing out their opinions and even those who are abused and harassed just because they are different. What are human rights when there are still people living in poverty, people living under slavery even until now, people not given freedom of speech and people who are still discriminated and segregated just because of their religion, sexual orientation and skin colour?
People are born equal. The differences in people are the reason why our world is interesting and fun to live in. If all people are the same, there will only be one type of thinking and we would probably live in a robotic lifestyle. People should accept one another and help others whenever we can. People should also respect one another so that discrimination will not occur. It is the choices we make to accept and agree to human rights just because there are no laws to human rights. People should stand together to not let human rights be violated.
I feel bad and ashamed because i did not do anything for other people who had suffered through all that. Every time i see news on political issues, i would just change the channel. I’m glad that i watched this video as it made me realised and understand more about human rights.
( Celine Goh Mae Jenn )
This is an inspiring, visually enticing video about the history of human rights. It’s explaining how we FIGHT for human rights which broaden my vision, and telling us to make it so. I feel very fresh with this issue and make me know we all should take it seriously because it can protect us from unfair treatment. As we know, Human rights are "rights and freedoms to which all humans are entitled.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, every person is entitled to certain fundamental rights, simply by the fact of being human. Consequently, they are “rights” because they are things you are allowed to be, to do or to have. These rights are there for your protection against people who might want to harm or hurt you. They are also there to help us get along with each other and live in peace. I think human rights are the responsibility to respect each other.
The video is irrefutable proof that human rights are not instinctive. This was the fact which many people didn’t have enough food, no shelter; abused and despised just they are different (race/background/occupation/skin colour). Every country has a different list. None has acknowledged every right completely. In the USA they don't give any rights to anyone the government doesn't want to, like suspected terrorists for example. That’s sad…
When human rights are not well known by people, abuses such as discrimination, intolerance, injustice, oppression and slavery can arise. There are 30 Articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights has been created especially for young people. I feel that this act provide a common understanding of what everyone’s rights are and it forms the basis for a world built on freedom, justice and peace.
Erm…many people know something about their rights. Generally they know they have the right to food and a safe place to stay. They know they have a right to be paid for the work they do. However, there are many other rights which they still don’t know. So, as the video said, KNOW YOUR RIGHT!
Human rights have evolved from one century to another. From the day where mankind kept improving themselves towards a new and modernize era until mankind has established a living ecosystem in the place where we all called it as Earth. The rights to religion, the rights to voice out freely, the rights to have education and many more are some of the types of human rights listed in The Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The definition of Human rights is actually simple; it is define as “the rights or freedom to which all humans are entitled”. Unfortunately, not many of us have a single clue on what are human rights about and what can they do to provide, protect and most importantly, benefit us. But wait a minute, that isn’t the saddest part or the most serious issue of the whole story. Issues of people often getting misused, slaved, prostituted, harmed, and discriminated from irresponsible and unscrupulous people or organizations are some of the violations in human rights.
ReplyDeleteSo the riddle remains unsolved, why is the point of legalizing laws and regulations in order to improve and preserve human rights, when there are millions of people in the world, regardless of age, race, religion and gender, are still suffering from problems? Wars of aggression, war crimes and crimes against humanity, including genocide, are breaches of International humanitarian law and represent the most serious of human rights violations. For every air that you breathe in starting from this second of time, at least 300 people worldwide died due to human rights violations. Ironically, governments and other networks of agencies in the world are “trying” their very best in order to stop all these problems from arising, as in reality the real world is full of corruption, injustice, and deceptions which threatens the many efforts and plans in order to stop the violations of human rights.
Every person in the world is born equally. Men, women and children should deserve every single piece of respect, acceptance in society and many more. Their rights should be preserved and protected at all times in order to provide a better future or maybe a better tomorrow for them. The choices we make to accept and agree towards human rights are indeed an utmost important decision to make. Therefore, people should take a look at themselves, think as twice as hard, and stand up together to take a vow to protect human rights from violated in the world.
Watching the video "The Story of Human Rights" was indeed an eye-opener for me. I realize that without having my rights as a human, I would have ended up suffering in some slave factory, working 24/7 producing shoes for customers, having meager food and education, and who knows, I could ended up 6-feet under the ground as a corpse, without any justice or fair treatment. Like a guardian Angel watching and protecting us from above, human rights are indeed pivotal towards every human being in a community, society and nation in the world.

ReplyDeleteAfter watched this video, I think the narration is perfect. The story of human rights explains the subject of human rights through the dramatic story of their history, development and use in the contemporary world today, and tells where human rights must begin to produce a decisive change in the wider society of humanity.
ReplyDeleteOur history is littered with atrocities of human rights and gross injustice and this informative story runs us all the way from the beginning of history up to present day, tracking us through the major milestones. But the visual presentation is just stunning and not just pleasing to the eye but also the intellect.
In my opinions, I think human rights are based on the principle of respect for the individual. Their fundamental assumption is that each person is a moral and rational being who deserves to be treated with dignity. They are called human rights because they are universal. Whereas nations or specialized groups enjoy specific rights that apply only to them, human rights are the rights to which everyone is entitled—no matter who they are or where they live—simply because they are alive.
Yet many people, when asked to name their rights, will list only freedom of speech and belief and perhaps one or two others. There is no question these are important rights, but the full scope of human rights is very broad. They mean choice and opportunity. They mean the freedom to obtain a job, adopt a career, select a partner of one’s choice and raise children. They include the right to travel widely and the right to work gainfully without harassment, abuse and threat of arbitrary dismissal. They even embrace the right to leisure.
In ages past, there were no human rights. Then the idea emerged that people should have certain freedoms. I really hope there are more and more people aware the human rights and know how important it is to turn this world around.

ReplyDeleteI think if someone were to come to me and ask me the same question, what are human rights, I would be as blur as them. Many people do not know how to define human rights. Many people don’t know what their rights are. After watching this video, I realize that I don’t really know what my rights are. What ARE human rights? I think that this video is trying to make people realize if they know what human rights are and what their rights are. I think this video shows us how actually human rights started. This video also tells us who actually realize that humans have rights.
ReplyDeleteIt all takes courage to stand up for your rights. I feel really grateful to Cyrus the Great as he is the person who started and realize about human rights. Without him, I doubt there will be any human rights at all in this world and we will ALL continue to suffer as slaves. In the video, it says that human rights are universal. Means it applies to everyone in the world.
This video makes me feel that we, humans must know our rights so that people will live in peace. This video also made me realize that there is such thing as a “Universal Declaration of Human Rights”. I think that every country in this world should sign this. This is what that can make the WORLD a better and peaceful place. With this declaration, there will be no suffering! There will be no one dying of starvation as people who are poor should be able to receive donations from people and especially the government as they should be the one who have the duty to take care of the people in the country. With this declaration, people will not go to prison for speaking their minds. The people will not protest if their rights are not violated. People have rights to have freedom of speech. People’s opinion is what makes people change to be a better person and be a better country. Most importantly, there will be NO SLAVERY. I think slavery is very cruel. Humans are not like animals. Humans have dignity, rights and freedom. People should not make use of people just to get benefits. It is WRONG in every single way. People should be respected as you would want people to respect you.
I strongly hope that in the future, all the countries will sign this declaration so that we can create a peaceful and harmonious world for everyone to live. Human rights are the world in every individual. So it is important to know you rights!
When I was re-watching this video watching this video, I’d asked myself what are human rights for many times. Yet I can’t really give a specific answer about it. From my personal opinion, I think human rights are rights or freedoms that given to all humans included a man, a women or even a child for being a human just like what the video had shown. It’s too wide to talk about human right, so I’d chosen some point of view about human rights.
ReplyDeleteThe saddest part of this video is there are still many of children dying every minute because of starving. I think this is totally ridiculous. They were born without a doctor or a midwife present. They were not being able to play with their siblings because they’d been tired and sick all the time. I found that there are 16,000 children die every day, 9 MILLION children die annually, which mean more than 15 children are dying every minute. Can you imagine that? Sadly, this is still a reality for some unfortunate of the children today. Yet, I felt relief that some kind people in the world realize this and establish or organize some group to help those children. A successful example was World Vision. They serve all people regardless of religion, race or gender.
Another point of view, I believe that all people in the world were born equally. No one was born to be slave for someone else. As the video said, human rights are the right you can have just simply because you are human. Yes, we are human so we deserve the rights. Children have the rights to be given good environment to live, eat, and get education to guarantee their future life. Women have the rights to be recognized as an individual that can contribute to the family, society or even the country and the world.
To be honest, I really felt rejoice that I got a chance to watch such a meaningful video yet I felt depressed because I can’t do anything for those unlucky people that can’t have certain rights. We are human beings, we have rights to claim for ourselves.

ReplyDeleteHumans have all kinds of right living in this world, but not too much as too much rights and no rule one might be aggressive in killing or taking over the world. Humans have right to speak, choose their religion, rights to have an education or even rights to live freely. Human rights is basically define as the rights or freedom which all human are entitled, but sadly not every human living in this earth has the full human rights. Some people are getting beaten up for having different race and religion or some might even get death sentence or send to jail cause of wanting to voice their opinion and freedom. Some people are also being sent to forced slavery; it could be prostitution or child trafficking or even child slavery and even forced labour.
ReplyDeleteIt’s also quite saddening that not many people can define human rights, but as for one lady said u interview twenty people and there will be twenty different answers. Human right is really a largely debated topic around the world and it can’t be spread throughout the world in a split second, people need to be educated to know what human rights truly is. On the video watching the first part of how human rights was started caught my attention. It’s interesting to know that there are people fighting for rights and there are people who do not agree on having these rights. People who don’t agree are like Hitler or even Napoleon but people who fought for rights are people like Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela and even Martin Luther King. It’s good to know that there is the universal human rights law that it is use for every single human. Living in the earth now is easier than before where millions and millions of people die without having this law.
After the history part of the video, it was very saddening to watch it. It shows that although we have human rights but not everybody in the world is still fortunate to be having a comfortable life. People are still becoming slaves, suffering for death by starving and even not having education to get a proper job. With all these problems human rights might not be 100% achievable. There are still people dying worldwide due to human rights violation .the governments are trying their best to stop all these problems but the truth is that it’s not as easy as this earth is full of injustice and corruptions.
Everybody in this world is born equally no matter man , woman or children. We should all receive respect with one another and being accepted by society. Human right basically begins with the individual itself. We must accept each other no matter what race or even religion to promote peace and freedom. We all should unite as one to protect human rights and prevent it from further happening. We have the power to stand up and make our choices to choose the right choices to prevent slavery and even death cause by not having the same equality.
The video truly was an interesting video as it shows how important the human rights is, without it I might not even be living peacefully today or even in the future. Without having these rights no one has their freedom and we all might be slaves for the cruel leaders. So this video is both saddening and at the same time it made me realize how lucky that there are more human rights law now than before.
Honestly, I felt very unfair for those people who are treated very badly and are living in poverty. Some of them are still treated as slave even now; they are not treated with respect. Like there was a case where prisoners are treated as slaves, no pay, unhealthy meals, no health care, being bullied, etc. I mean, where are those human rights people are supposed to obey? If I were asked by someone what is human rights, I will tell them that slavery, poverty and disrespecting to poor society is disobeying the human rights. Like what the video had showed us, human rights are part of our law, and what is law? Law is created by legislators for society to obey and follow, so that bad things like protesting won’t happen. But it seems that not many people understand the terms of human rights. When I was watching those kids living in hunger and are only left with bones during the class, I felt very emotional at once. I was affected by the video. What the video meant was so true and I’m touched by her words. Why? Because I realize that there are more unlucky people outside who are deserved to be treated as human. I just don’t understand why some people cannot obey those rules and why is it so hard to obey them. But I’m grateful that people like Martin Luther King, Cyrus The Great and others had been very brave to voice out their opinions and started a natural law which is human rights. I think that sometimes people are treated differently based on their status. But I still think that there must be reasons on why does the terms of human rights exist, and I think it’s to protect our society even if they are rich or poor. Why? Because human own their rights.

What is human right? Is it about freedom of human being to do whatever they like to do without limit? Or it is about human right that come to us since we were born? The video that we watch recently indicate that some part in the world, I only know that human being such as children were actually suffer from these kind of treatment. They were starving all the time, don’t know that they can cross the night and see the tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteThis thing happened mostly in the country that lack practice of human right, such as Africa. Alone in Nigeria, 3.6 million people were suffering from food shortages, 10% of then are children. Children are dying daily in the few feeding centres there are, where their place in the queue could make the difference between life and death. According one of the humantarian organization in Africa, Milton Tetonidis of Doctor Without Border said that every minute and hours goes on, children dying in this centre. This prove that even children were sent to the centre, it was too late, bacause even they get to eat, they have lost the ability to eat as their body function already shutting down.
It was so touching to watch the video, according to survey, every 3 seconds in this world, one children die. That means 20 children die in one minutes, imagine the amoount of children die every hour evry year. It could be millions of millions.
Slave, is the unnesarry word to exist in human language. People are not born slave, they were forced to be slave. People were born with equallity, it’s the people who thought they were king of everything that take equality away. People were forced to starve, lack of cloths to wear, even basic things they can’t get. That’s call level 10 human right breach.
Luckily we have people who aware of this situation, some even become legend such as Mother Teressa who willing to sacrifice her whole life to help those people in need and Martin Lurther King who fight for equality among the people in America. They were the people that we should example, they were the right people that do the right thing in the history in mankind. Their determination prove succesfull as people around the world started to form human right and humanatarian group to help those people in need.
Finally and honestly, the video is touching and interesting. Imagine myelf in the situation as the people in the video, I feel ashamed I am not the part of people wo helping them. Hopefully in the future I got the chance to do that.
This video show me that all people should be treated equally because all the human have their Human Rights. As a human you hope that people will treat you nicely so people also hope to get treated nicely from you too because every human is born free and equal because there is Human Rights. Besides that, Human Rights are Rights to live, every human deserved it. No one's Rights to live should be taken unless they did something go against the law and need to be executed. On the other hand, Human Rights is freedom of religion also because every human have their rights to choose for themselves.Nevertheless there are about 30 Human Rights are stated in document in the United States so if someone go against you then you can take action in the law way.I feel grateful because there is a person called Cyrus the Great appeared and he change everything, he free the slave and he said every people can choose their own religion. Finally, I feel that this video is very touching and interesting and it actually giving out awareness and alert us about Human Right which means every human have their own rights.
ReplyDeleteThere is someone who says that human rights are to be free and equal, freedom of religion. But, what human rights really are? Everyone regardless where they from or what they are, as human, we should fight for our human rights. We wanted to be treated by fair and square. During 3000 BC, people slowly started to fight for their own human rights. It is the basic rights to live. It is so irony that it was mentioned that human rights are Universal. But what we saw is in today’s life, there are people around the world still forced to be slaves or fight for their rights through revolution.
ReplyDeleteThree years back, I went to a motivational camp. One of the speakers had talked about the situation in some part of Africa. The people are suffering from hunger, diseases and poverty. They do not have proper meals, moreover about education? They went there for a charity campaign. He said that children are fighting and grabbing for food. They did not even bother to hurt themselves just to grab for a packet of biscuit. In this modern era, technologies are getting more advance. But there are many of them without a shelter, sufficient food and lack of education. In the video mentioned that 16 thousands of children die every day because of starvation, a billion adults are illiterate! These all happened because Human Rights did not have the force of law.
People are still fighting for the equal rights. Although they voice out what they actually want, the situation remain the same. For examples, Sun Yat Sen revolution in China, he wanted the country to be democracy, but until today, China is still a Communists country. There have been many protests, revolution occurred, just to fight for the human rights. Dr. Martin Luther King, Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela and many others had done so much effort to protect the human rights.
I feel that equalities are difficult to maintain as there are no equalization in this world. People used to judge or treat others by their skin colours, religions and social status. It is irony that people are born equally! I hope that in the near future, people will stay away from being treated unfairly, more aware of their own human rights.
After watching the video, sadness and dissapointment appear at the same times.Because what we are living now, everything was so advance. But still there is a dark side of the world which is human right.Human right had been fighting for more than thousand years ago.Still, there are some country people did not treated fairly. For examples, India, China and Africa. In India is so common that a girl when they are still a kid, their family quickly force them to marry with another guy which they never meet before. Do their parents ever think of the effect of kid marriage? Second, China recently had become a strong country this is because they have a great population for asking for a job.For an example, i can say that almost the clothes human are made in china except for those branded stuff. But did u guys ever think before that, the shirts we wear on is actually come from a low income labor? They was paid so low that hardly to cover their daily expenses and their working hour is double of we work a day.But what can they do?even they voice out, but still people never care of them, they only care about is whether the shirt they wearing is in quality.
ReplyDeleteWhile mention the human right,it remind me of that Malaysia politic. For an example, the murder case of Teoh Beng Hock. His death until now is still a mystery and the government can't give their family a proper answer. The family did not giving up for their hope but what they got in the end was dissapointment. Besides, Malaysia had been independent for more than 50 years but the chinese and indian resident still being treated as second race in Malyaisa, this is so not fair for them as they also fought independent for the country together too. If there is a what we called "mix blood" which mean different race but they got marry and got a children, how they identified their race???should it be 1 side of parents race???NO, it should be MALAYSIAN.
However, i hope that in this world the people have to treated fairly as no matter how different race and culture, our blood is still the red color. We should stand together and work together for a better tomorrow.
Firstly, i feel that this video has reminded me of the existence of basic human rights that every human being has in this world. After watching this video,i also feel more confident in living my life from day to day as i am now aware that i do have my rights as a human being.Besides that,by watching this video i was also able to learn and watch how the human rights first existed from the ancient times and how it it revolved until the universal declaration of human rights was declared.Furthermore i feel that we should all be very greatful to Cyrus the Great for his contribution towards the existence if human rights as it all started from Cyrus The Great. Moreover, i also feel sad for the people who are neglected from their basic human rights as shown in the video.I feel that all of the countries in the world should come together and help these people as we are all human beings.I also feel that the people of our country are being denied their basic human rights of freedom of speech and this should change as it is not right.
ReplyDeleteHuman rights, words that we can hear every day at anywhere. Human rights were exist long time ago and developed until today. Although The Universal Declaration of Human Rights stated every single human rights clearly, but majority of people wouldn’t know what is the exact meaning of human rights. If I been asked this question, I probably become speechless, shake my head and smile at you. After watching this video, I feel I am so dumb and think that the world has achieved peaceful after the end of World War 2. Well, it doesn’t goes like that.
ReplyDeleteThis video has shown the progress of human rights’ development which fought by our ancestors. This video also shown there are still many people’s rights has been violated and suffers in pain. For examples, 60,000 children are dying of starvation every day; people who speak out their mind are locked in prison. These kinds of human rights violation happened is because of The Universal Declaration of Human Rights have no force and power to stop all these disasters. For me, The Universal Declaration of Human Rights is just a piece of normal paper which full of words.
This video is an eye-opener to me. It tells me that human rights are still being violated somewhere in the Earth today. It also makes me realize that how important human rights are. Humans are born to have freedom and equal rights and treatment but not be violated or discriminated. Somehow I feel disappointed and sad to see humans in this world still killing each other and suffer in hardship. They are just like animals which killing opponent to survive. Humans have the rights to live better. So, this is the time for us to fight for our rights, like the video say, “Know your rights”.
Lim Chung Shian
After watching the video, it made me realize how humans have been treated unfairly. Everyone deserves equal rights as long as they are a living being. Nobody has the power to take those rights away from us. However, not much people know what human rights are exactly. Until The Universal Declaration of Human Rights came into existence, nobody had a clear definition on what human rights are. Yes, you might say having a formal declaration will make each and every one of us clear on what are human rights, but what about those people who didn’t have the chance to see the declaration? There are 30 human rights that are listed in the Declaration, yet if you walk up to a person in the street and ask them what are human rights? You would most probably get blank faces and 1 or 2 answers. More people should know about what rights they have as not to be cheated on. Nobody should be oppressed just because of their skin colour or some law that does not even exist. Everyone should have equal treatment. Cyrus the Great was a great man for freeing the slave and declaring freedom in choosing our religion. He started the movement for human rights. Many people have stood up for equal rights. It is due to their courage in defying the norm that we have the Declaration. We should know our rights and help fight for it. Not discriminate people because of their skin colour or heritage. It is what lies in the heart that is important.
ReplyDelete(Liew Bi Hui)
What is the different between human and animal? It is human can thought and knows how to improve environment.
ReplyDeleteAs I see the video I think that the development of human rights is gone with the development of society. In primitive society, limited by human ability, everybody is equal is a Utopia. Is it good for human? If everybody is equal what human fight for, everyone will be lazy. Actually, in order to survive human must selfish, so the slavery has appeared, the powerful race conquer the weak race and enslave them. It is improved compare with the primitive society despite it is make many people have no rights cause in this time human’s existent ability is low could not make everyone equal, if make everyone equal that human is always live in primitive. Through the development of human more and more people thought why some people have privilege both of us are human why some people born on a noble family have privilege I haven’t. The world turns, due to the development improve economic people have ability to command their life. So the revolution happened in the world. Nowadays, the economics make people know that human rights are also benefit for development. In 1920s-1930s human go through a great depression the study show that the most important reason is gap between the wealthy and poor. Many people are very poor so they have no money to buy anything even food. Poverty made them have no rights to choose. So the Fascismo and communism are appeared. After World War 2, people know human rights are necessary. If human rights are not regard then the tragedy will happen again and again. Human rights is also a symbol of civilization. It is a universal value of human.
